11/09 Inspiration From Lily and Cuckoo

The Lily Connection

November 2009

Theme for the month:

Let the Light Shine!

Sometimes I don’t know why I do the things I do.  Somehow, I keep leaving lights on after I leave a room.  The reason why I know this is because my husband keeps telling me so.  Okay, I admit I need reminders to shut them off, but if I leave on a light on purpose, all I ask is that I would like to, please.

The other night, I had a very good reason for leaving a light on.  I left it on for my cat, Kimba.  Yes, I left it on so he could see down the hallway to the litter box that I just cleaned for him.  It made perfect sense to me.  Well, my husband didn’t seem to understand my logic and stated loudly something about me and lights and the electric bill and it really struck my button.  The hot button, that is.  One thing led to another and before we knew it, we were flinging hot buttons all through the air.  You might say we electrified the sky with the heat from our buttons.  Too bad we couldn’t harness that heat and use it to keep warm this winter!  (It gets cold up here in New England…  Ask the birds~ they don’t hang around!)  Anyway, lucky for me, I came up with a system to use when hot buttons get pushed.

In the morning, I had time to reflect.  What had bothered me so?  As I pondered, two things came to light:  1.) Respect and 2.) Perspective.  I wanted respect for my decision to leave a light on and wondered just how big a deal it was to leave a light on for an hour or so.  So, I did some research.  I found out that if you leave on 400 watts of light continuously 24/hours a day for one month it equals $36.00.  So my 100 watt bulb all day and night for one month is $9.00.  If you divide the cost out, my decision to leave the hallway light on for one hour cost about two pennies.  When I presented my findings, I am happy to say we found mutual perspective.  We let the light shine.

***May All Things Be Beaming and Bountiful This November***

Behind the theme:

I’m not sure but I think this whole “forgetting to shut off lights” is fairly new for me.  Have I become completely scatter-brained?  I really wanted to figure this out so I tried to monitor myself.  (I know, I get crazier every day)  So, I watched myself go back into a room where I left a light on and then I re-traced my steps to see where I went when I left the room and why.  It turns out, I have a lot on my mind!  I am in the middle of at least seven projects at once and when I stepped out, it was to accomplish a task knowing I would return to the one I was in the middle of.  Phew.  It ALL makes sense now.

Secret Place to say a little bit more:

I am happy to say I do NOT have every room in the house lit up for no reason!  My goodness, no.  If you only knew the crazy things I do to be thrifty and save on money and energy!  And if my sophisticated mathematics I used to calculate my hallway light are a wee bit off, well, all I can say is that I am just following the principles of “Cuckooology.”  And Cuckooology does not fuss with minor details, or work in black in white.  I dare say, The principles of Cuckooology operate in FULL COLOR, an OPEN WINDOW of understanding, and LOTS of LIGHT.

P.S.  In the middle of my maze game, I have a rotary!  I am so …

Survey Question:  Just Curious~ would you be interested in receiving notes from the Lily Connection more often?  Every two weeks? Weekly? Daily? Not a long story but just a sentence or two… These thoughts that run through my mind that lead me up to the story on the first.  Just Curious…
