10-10 The Lily Connection “Alligator Soup”

The Lily Connection

October 2010

Theme for the month:

Alligator Soup

It was a peaceful evening.  I had no idea a strange and curious adventure was waiting to invite me in…

Every year around here, we have a street festival called “The Taste of Mystic.”  It’s where the local restaurants get together and set up tents offering their unique and delectable dishes.  Every year I go to participate in the neighborhood rally of good cheer and every year I cheerfully decline to actually eat any offerings.

I know, you might be thinking, “What are you talking about?  You go to the TASTE of Mystic and not eat?  What’s up with that, girlfriend??”  I KNOW!  It’s crazy stuff.  But you know, I lived a long time like that.  Whenever food was offered, my knee-jerk reaction was to say:  Oh, no, thank-you, I’m watching my girlish figure.”  Actually, I NEVER said “girlish figure,” I don’t know where that came from.  Hmmm… I guess I am trying to remember what I used to say most often.  Probably a simple “I’m not hungry…”  Yeah, that’s what I used to say most often.

It’s a long story, but the best part is when I knocked the evil food demon on its butt and whipped its sorry issues into a spicy “I can, too” attitude.   YEAH!  I will never forget the first dish I chose to have for lunch after years of passing it by.  It was clam chowder.  Now, you can see the positive progression I have made over these last five years because do you want to guess what I had THIS year at the Taste of Mystic?”  Yeah, I had the Alligator Soup.  No, it did not taste like chicken.  It tasted like happiness.  A big bowl of happiness.

Lily’s Life Lesson #103

appears to be

a bigger bowl

than we bargained for.

In fact,

I just found an alligator

in my soup.

Turns out,

this gator was

on my side, though.

After we ate,

He did the dishes.

Behind the theme:

Wow, I actually kinda surprised myself this month.  I had so much fun this year at the “Taste,” and tried this alligator soup and I knew I wanted to write and tell you all about it.  Mostly, because of how exciting and weird it is to try alligator soup!  As I sat down to write, my fingers started to type a message I had no idea they were going to say.  After all these years of “Lily” leading the way, I knew I was best off just getting out of its way and letting it flow.  Between you and me, the best part of having the alligator soup is telling people that’s what I ate at the “Taste.”  Because, you know, everyone around here asks each other for days after the event, “Did you go to the “Taste?”…” Yeah?”,,, “What did you eat?”  I will let you imagine the look on each person’s face when I say,

“I had the Alligator Soup.”

The Happy Place:

I call the Lily web-site the “happy place” because when you get there, you are.  It’s just like Lily’s Lesson #57:

The Secret Place to say a little bit more:

How much more would you like me to say?  I mean, I could write a book on this subject…  Ha!  No, I’m just kidding~ I have a couple of books underway at the moment!  But, you know, there is a big association between happiness and letting go of control / living in the moment, just like we talk about each month.  We simply cannot control life, people, and things, so there is no use trying.  LET IT FLOW, my friends!  What once was complicated, is now so simple.

Hungry = Eat

Yummy + Moderation = Happiness

Well, I am glad we got THAT all cleared up!!!

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR SOME TRICKS AND TREATING, so have FUN and put some TREATS in your bowl of LIFE!

See you next month!

…I am fascinated with the Wabi Sabi concept- oh what a wide and wonderful world we live in- what will we learn tomorrow?

I am currently fascinated by Buddhist prayer flags and have a set to put out…

…The concept behind them is that each color flag represents one of the 5  buddhist elements- earth/ air/infinite space/ fire/water- and each flag is printed and blessed with prayers for peace , prosperity , well being etc. not only for the person who flies the flags, but also and more importantly, for the universe– and every time the wind blows the flags the messages of peace etc are taken throughout the universe .

… I think you are an angel, not an ostrich- what is that man talking about? 🙂

From Danielle (Thank –you!)

Sept 7th

You are still in love…with Glen, after all these years, and it is very refreshing to know that ever-lasting love still exists between a couple. I hope to be there for your 50th anniversary party!

…I never saw you as an ostrich, sort of land bound and somewhat clumsy, but as an osprey, perhaps, circling around and evaluating the scene, on the wing, to pounce next on an opportunity to further yourself… Physically, you are an egret in elegance, but with a will and a way to rival an eagle.  Bird talk aside, I admire your strength to continue along a way of persevering what means most to you and that is LOVE.

From Lee (Thank-you!)
