The Lily Connection

February 2011

Theme for the month:

Flashback

I am having a flash that used to be back but now it is here.  I can’t really say when it started, either.  All I know is that my closet is filled with tie-dye shirts, and my mind is filled with Peace, Love and Bubbles of Happiness.

What marked the path of this free-flowing feeling of grooviness?  One neon blinking marker comes to mind.  A few years back, I was invited to a Halloween Party.  I have created some super put-together costumes in the past, so my mind started reeling for this one.  I mean, I have been “Zena” and “Marilyn” and one of a pair of dice, so I wanted to think of something really good!  I wanted to put my costume together with things I already had on hand, so I looked around to see what I had to work with.  I am particularly attracted to stripes (I have no idea why) and noticed a pretty cool clash of striped things hanging in my closet.  My next thought was “Pippi Long-Stocking.”

If you don’t know Pippi, she is a kooky character in children’s books that I read when I was kid.  I even dressed up as Pippi for Halloween when I was 9 years old!  Well, cosmic cool things happen when things come around full circle, and I decided for sure, I would be Pippi again for Halloween.  I literally took my whole “Pippi” outfit right out of my closet, layering a few extra stripes along the way.  Just like the first time, I braided my hair around a wire coat-hanger bent way out on each side of my head.  I had to walk sideways to go through a doorway!

When I arrived at the party, I was smiling ear to ear.  I mean, who wouldn’t be smiling as they are now personifying the kid they admired as a kid.  What I remember most is what my friend said to me the moment he saw me.  He said, “This look,” as he waved his hand in a grand gesture from my mary-jane shoes to the tips of my flying pig-tails, “It works for you.”

Lily’s Life Lesson #107

When you look something

straight in the eye

and smile,

you

have done

much more than you

could possibly realize.

For when you smile

at the future,

Destiny smiles

back at you.

Behind the theme:

Last summer, Glen and I had one marvelous get-away day we spent on Block Island.  You know the place~ it is an island of paradise off the coast of Rhode Island.  My biggest treasure of the day is when I found the peace love pendant you see pictured above.  I wear it every chance I get.  Sometimes I forget I have it on, and I see the coolest look on someone’s face.  Their eyes twinkle and they look, well, they look groovy somehow!  I love the idea that each of us has the power to make a positive difference in the lives we touch.  Be YOU, Be HAPPY and Be the change you want to see.

The Sharing Place:

I am smiling ear to ear to share with you that my first published author from the “Lily Wish Factory” publishing house is available to purchase!

The title is called “The Wishing Season,” Danielle Bergey, author.

Here she is~

I love this story!

Greetings to the many members of Lil’Cuckoo Nation !

JANKU MOON

is pleased to introduce to you:

~The Wishing Season~

Wishing is forbidden.  To say it, to even think it, is against  the Law.  A Mischevious Wind is making it very difficult for people to obey the Law. This is the story of Islan (eye-lan) and Hope and what happens when people begin to think for themselves…

I would like to take a moment to thank Liz, not only for allowing me the opportunity to bring THE WISHING SEASON to all of you on LilyWish Factory, but also for her work as the publisher of this delightful all-ages story!  THE WISHING SEASON is the first book published by Lily Wish Factory Publishing!  Thank You Liz!  Thank you infinity….

Now, for those of you saying, what is a JANKU MOON, I will tell you, but first let me introduce myself!  My name is Danielle Bergey and I am the author of THE WISHING SEASON

and the creator of JANKU MOON.

I am a writer.
( I am also a native Rhode Islander and a very happily “retired” Navy wife- my husband is a retired Navy pilot.  We have 3 large teenage children and pets all over our house.  I love my yellow lab, Sophie and I tolerate exercise, only because I want to look good in a pair of jeans.)

JANKU MOON is the name of my business.  It is a place where the child in all of us is encouraged to come out and play.  There are wonderful stories to be found in JANKU MOON- stories for all ages.  I truly believe that imagination and daydreaming are essential to a happy life- if you can dream it, it can be.

The name JANKU MOON  is a combination of two words- Janku, is Estonian- it means “bunny” and is a term of endearment that my husband used to call me in our “courtin’ days” and Moon comes from my deep and abiding love of crescent moons and my deep and abiding belief that they are magical and that all things magical happen on the night of crescent moons.  I have danced under the light of crescent moons- blown kisses to them- have a tattoo of a crescent moon- yes- I am THAT woman!!

The Secret Place to say a little bit more:

A long time ago, I felt self-conscious, agonizing over things to say and what to wear.  I must say, it still creeps in every now and then!  But the real break-through is when you take the focus off yourself and direct it out there.  Out there are beautiful sights of nature to enjoy, other people’s thoughts to listen to and other projects to delve into.  When you focus on all of that, the FLOW begins.  When I look someone in the eye and smile, I am saying “It is not about me.  It is about YOU.  Be who you are, and talk to me.”  The message is unspoken.  Now, with that being said, it also means I am free to express myself and be who I am, too.  So, that explains why on any given day, I look like a bigger version of Pippi.  Those are the days I choose my outfit as if it were the first day EVER, that my Mom let me dress myself.  It is so much fun!

***BE FREE AND SMILE***

See you next month!
